Praying a Simple Prayer

In this episode, I share an excerpt from a sermon I gave a few years ago.
Prayer can be simple. We can breathe and say "Jesus". That is enough.
Another simple prayer is The Lord’s Prayer.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed is thy name.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

I am cheering for you!
Hey friends, for the next few days, I'm gonna be sharing some of the messages I once preached as a pastor and some thoughts I've had with my friend Whitney Vance, about the power of power thoughts, whether they come from scripture or from thought leaders like Gabby Bernstein. I hope you like this week of new content. Welcome to the Live A Vibrant Life podcast. I'm life coach Kelly Tibbitts, and each week I'll be here to encourage and equip you with the tools you need to grow in self-awareness and invest your best energy in your dreams and your purpose. I believe self-awareness changes everything. Let's get started. I was driving to Framingham to see my daughter and all of a sudden I am accidentally driving into Boston. And my GPS won't work! You ever have that where it's just going around in circles? I was scared unable to think- and again, I'm going to meet my daughter for lunch, and so I'm holding it together really well but I realize I'm gonna be at least an hour till I can see her. I decide to call her and I fall apart. I don't know where I am and there's no way to fix it. I ask her to do something in my tears. I say, will you pray for me? I cannot figure out for the life of me how to get out of this situation. Well, do you know how God got me out of this situation? A police officer pulled me over because I was driving so terribly he thought something was, you know, inebriating me. He pulls me over and in Boston they have these bike lanes. So I think if I pull in the bike lane, am I gonna get a ticket? So I'm waiting by the time I finally pull over, and I pull down my window and he doesn't keep it together like a police officer and say, license and registrar. He says, what are you doing? And I'm so scared, and I'm like, I've never been lost in Boston before. After he looks at my license and registration I said I was at Gordon. He said, I don't care where you were. Where are you going? I said, I'm trying to get to Framingham. And he said, see that white truck? Follow him and turn there and you're gonna get there. Can I just tell you, if someone told me... Yeah, you're gonna get to do this fun thing but a police officer is gonna pull you over. Do you think I would've chosen to take that route? I would've stayed home. But you know what I learned that day? I learned that my daughter can pray for me when I can't pray. And when she prayed, God gave her peace and she didn't spend the next hour in anxiety. She just went and had a coffee and she would check her phone to make sure I was moving in the right direction. After a while, she cheered me on. You found it. And I made it there safely and we had a lovely lunch together and I learned I could do hard things. I finally got to Framingham and could hug my daughter. The Bible says that the spirit is interceding for us with groanings when we don't even have the words. Have you ever been at that place? I have been in those places where I'm praying and I knew that God was interceding for me. I've also had moments where I would pray one word. Jesus. That was a powerful, simple, true prayer. For some of you today, that's your prayer, Jesus. What is really on your heart right now? He can handle it. You can bring it to him. He was saying this is how you pray. Our father in heaven, hallowed be thy name. When Jesus was praying he said, Abba. Have you ever been around a little kid and they finally say, dadda or mama for the first time and your whole world explodes. That's the kind of relationship we have with the God who loves us. Hallowed be thy name. May your name be kept holy. The power of being Christians is that we have the name of Jesus in our identity, set apart for God's good work. He continues may your kingdom come and may your will be done on Earth as it is in heaven. Sometimes through really hard things. The diagnosis is not going to result in health. That person you love, you didn't have a chance to say goodbye. The financial burden looks like there is no answer. We pray God on earth as it is in heaven, use me to be your light. The next sentence, It's hard for us to wrap our mind around give us this day our daily bread. Because if your house is like mine, there is enough food for two or three weeks, right? But for people who don't know where their next meal is coming from, come with your need Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our debts. Help us to forgive one another. What unforgiveness does is it injures you. Have you ever held onto something somebody did and it was so wrong and you just held onto it? Do you know they slept just fine Pain wasn't impacting them, but it sure was hurting you. Jesus was reminding us, help us to forgive them as you've already forgiven us. Don't lead us into temptation. When was the last time you asked, God, don't lead me into temptation. One way to avoid temptations is to ask, God, would you help me? And then to also rest. I think it was good for me to know I can survive hard things, but I would not have wanted it to happen. You have the same story. There are things you look back on and you wish, that never happened. It was so hard. But you can say, it made me who I am today. Made me stronger. It built my faith, it gave me grit. Amen. Do you ever wonder why we say that together? It's in agreement. We're saying, oh yes, oh yes. I look ahead and I don't see a way. But oh yes, God, I see you. May God bless you and keep you, may his face shine on you and give you his peace. Amen. I hope you enjoyed this episode. I look forward to talking again next week. Thank you for joining the Live A Vibrant Life podcast.
